Branch A.G.M.
comes back to Cardiff
The
Council Chamber at Cardiff County Council's Headquarters in
Cardiff Bay was the venue for the 2002 Annual
General Meeting of the Mid & South Glamorgan Branch of the
Magistrates' Association on Wednesday 6th November.
Murray A. McLaggan, MA, JP,
presided over his final meeting as Branch President due to his
impending retirement as HM Lord Lieutenant of Mid Glamorgan.
He
thanked members for making the trip and stated that the Branch
Executive had resolved to find a suitable venue in Cardiff for
the 2002 Branch AGM.
Routine
administrative, statistical and financial matters were once
again attended
to in the usual efficient manner.
Treasurer
Dewi Hughes JP
was re-elected unopposed, as were all of the surviving
Vice-Presidents.
The evening's guest Speaker was Mrs Gillian
Baranski, Barrister and Chief Executive of the South Wales
Magistrates' Court Committee. Mrs Baranski gave a very
illuminating talk on some possible consequences arising out of
the Courts Bill - currently making its way through Parliament.
She was uniquely able to use her perspective
as the Senior Manager of the Magistrates' Court Service in South
Wales to highlight the likely benefits and potential drawbacks
of the Government's proposals.
Although having given considerable food for
thought, Mrs Baranski's address was extremely well received by the members present.
